Production infrastructure for e-kerosene using MiRO as an example

Project and publication
Luftbildaufnahme der MiROMiRO
The project investigated how future production and supply of renewable kerosene (re-kerosene) could be established at the Oberrhein mineral oil refinery (MiRO) site. The aim is to supply airports in Baden-Württemberg – in particular Stuttgart and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden – with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the long term.

One focus was on analyzing production processes for e-kerosene, for example based on methanol. The project examined how process conditions affect the yield and quality of the resulting fuels. On this basis, a model was developed that can predict the composition and quality of the products.

In addition, various concepts for transport, blending, and distribution of the fuel were evaluated. The results show that MiRO, as a central location for production and blending, represents a particularly efficient and economical solution.

Further details and results are described in the following publication on the project.
